Comparing mattress quality

What should you look for when purchasing a new mattress?  Most consumers don't have the slightest idea of what goes into a new mattress.  Most don't even want to take the time to find out.  They just roll the dice and hope they are making the best decision.  They often will believe that the companies that advertise the most must be the best source.  Then when they get there, they think that if they buy the most expensive, logically that will be the best.  Meanwhile the large retail stores just made a killing while the consumer goes home to sleep on a poorly constructed mattress that provides few of the components that are needed for restful sleep.  So, what should the average consumer do?  First decide on a budget.  Then search online for some local mattress stores.  Search: "Discount mattress stores, local mattress stores, mattress stores in (your city) and then go and visit at least 3 mattress stores.  Try to avoid the "S Brands".  Those are the brands that you hear advertised all the time.  They are generally not the best choice.  Look for a brand that you do not recognize from advertising.  For a low budget look for a spring mattress with steel reinforced edges and not "foam encased".  For middle range budgets look for a Gel Foam, (try to find 4 lb. density if possible).  Then for the very best mattress look for a latex.  Latex is the most supportive, most durable and sleeps the coolest.  You should be able to find a queen set for under $2,000.  (One more tip):  Lean more towards the firm side than the soft side.  You body will thank you in the morning.  Read more on our mattress blog at:  http://www.charlestonbedding.com/mattress-blog/
